Central Illinois man pleads guilty to child pornography, other charges

BLOOMINGTON - A central Illinois man who pleaded guilty to sex offender registration and child pornography charges could face up to 120 years in prison when he's sentenced.

Authorities say James Carter pleaded guilty to two counts of failure to register as a sex offender and two counts of possession of child pornography on Monday.

Police say that Carter failed to register as a sex offender from October 2013 until January 2014, and that officers found pornographic images of children on a computer owned by Carter during a search of his home on January 27.

Carter is scheduled to be sentenced in January.  He faces between 24 and 120 years in prison, and will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
