Western Illinois police say 6-year-old started store fire

Posted:
SILVIS - Western Illinois authorities say a fire that damaged a Dollar General store in Silvis earlier this month was started by a six-year-old boy.

According to Silvis police, investigators found that the child set the November 11 fire using a lighter he brought from home to ignite paper towels.  Authorities say no one was injured in the fire, but damage estimates were about $500,000.

Silvis police also say no charges have been filed, and that they're working with the child and his family to provide educational resources.
