Keeping Shopping Dollars Local

Decatur – Big chains at malls.  On line shopping.  Local stores will be working hard to keep shoppers in town this holiday season.

The Wharf is known for lunch & dinner.  Saturday the eatery will be open 6am to cater to the breakfast crowd.

“Breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, biscuits and gravy,” owner Matt Sites told WAND News.  “We baked donuts in house.  Did donut holes, danishes.  Trying to get some people who are passing through and grab something to go.”

Sales tax dollars stay in the city when shoppers buy local.  And, local shopping supports local business owners.

“When you shop locally all of that money that we make stays in the community and it's circulated again and it helps our small business grow,” said Sheryol Threewit, owner of All Things Beautiful Collectibles and Gifts.

One downtown Decatur business was already advertising some items in his store at 50% off.
