Incoming University of Illinois president wants to start job early

CHAMPAIGN - Timothy Killeen is expected to become University of Illinois' president on July 1, but the incoming president says he's hoping to begin his new job prior to that scheduled start date.

Killeen is expected to begin his job when current university President Robert Easter retires next year.  However, Killeen says he hopes to start work in late spring, and adds that he'll be a regular presence on the University of Illinois' campuses.  He was announced as the university's next president on November 19.

Killeen also says that he may be working in a junior role while Easter wraps up his presidential role.  The University of Illinois' Board of Trustees will hold a meeting on January 15, where they could give Killeen's hiring their final approval.
