Decatur officials encourage residents to call for water meter upgrade appointment

DECATUR - Decatur officials are encouraging residents to call for an appointment to have a new Advanced Metering Infrastructure water meter installed.

The meters are part of Decatur's Water Meter System Improvement project, which will upgrade or replace more than 31,000 meters in city residences and businesses.  The new meters will be able to be read remotely, leading to quicker and more accurate readings.

This project will also eliminate the need for meter readers to access customers' properties each month, and the new technology will provide the ability to find leaks sooner, and save customers money.

The replacements are being performed by city contractor Corix Utilities.  A Corix representative will need to enter residences to perform the upgrade or replacement, and the entire process will take between 30 to 45 minute to complete, during which your water service will be shut off.

All Corix representatives will have photo ID cards, and will be traveling in properly-marked service vehicles.  To schedule an appointment, call (855) 734-9618.
