Ameren alerting customers to recent scams

ST. LOUIS - Ameren officials are reaching out to customers in order to make them aware of recent scams.

Ameren officials say customers should watch out for callers who threaten the disconnection of their service unless a payment with a prepaid card or Green Dot Money Pak card is made immediately.  Officials also say scammers are mimicking voice recordings that appear to be from utilities in order to persuade customers to make a payment.

Ameren officials would like to remind residents that they never demand personal, account or financial information for immediate payment, that they never come to your home without being scheduled, and that they are not allowed to take payments in the field.  Ameren officials also say they never send emails that include attachments, unless you've contacted them for specific information.

Ameren officials say if you're a customer, and you suspect someone is impersonating an Ameren employee, that you should end the conversation and call Ameren Illinois at (800) 755-5000.
