Kankakee County man sentenced to 14.5 years in prison

URBANA - Authorities say a Kankakee County man who was found guilty of trafficking heroin and possession of a weapon by a felon has been sentenced to 14-and-a-half years in prison.

On July 29, J.B. Brown, Jr., 37, was convicted by a jury for intending to distribute more than 100 grams of heroin, and for possessing a loaded Glock .45 pistol when he was a convicted felon.  Brown's sentencing guideline range was increased after the court found that Brown committed perjury when he testified during his trial in July.

Brown has remained in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service since his conviction.  After completing his prison sentence, Brown will be ordered to remain on supervised release for eight years.
