CHAMPAIGN COUNTY - Illinois State Police say a two-vehicle crash caused the closure of one lane of U.S. Route 45 southbound early Wednesday morning.

Authorities say the crash happened at about 5:51 a.m. on U.S. Route 45 southbound, approximately 280 feet south of Church Street in Thomasboro.  Illinois State Police say that a truck-tractor semi-trailer turned on U.S. Route 45 from Church Street, and was traveling in the right lane of traffic.  The semi-trailer traveled about 280 away from the intersection when a Chevrolet Silverado struck the rear of the semi-trailer.  Authorities say the Silverado immediately caught on fire, at which time the driver was able to get out of his truck without sustaining further injury.

Traffic was rerouted while the scene of the crash was cleaned, and ice was cleared from the roadway.  Authorities say the ice formed when water that firefighters were using to extinguish the fire froze on the pavement.  The roadway was reopened at approximately 8:00 a.m.

An initial investigation by Illinois State Police revealed that both drivers were wearing their seat belts.  The driver of the Silverado declined medical treatment for minor injuries sustained in the crash.  Police say the pick-up truck's driver was given a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
