Mattoon police arrest armed robbery suspect

MATTOON - The Mattoon Police Department says a central Illinois man has been arrested for allegedly robbing a Dairy Queen restaurant on December 3.

Mattoon police say Anthony Vaultonburg, 26, was arrested at 8:51 p.m. Wednesday night in the 2100 block of Richmond Avenue in Mattoon.  Vaultonburg faces a preliminary charge of armed robbery.

According to Mattoon police, Vaultonburg entered the Dairy Queen restaurant in the 300 block of North 19th Street at 8:48 p.m.  Police say while wearing a mask, Vaultonburg displayed a knife to the cashier, demanded money, and then fled.  Mattoon police say Vaultonburg was arrested by an officer while running away from the scene of the robbery.

Vaultonburg remains in custody at the Coles County Jail.
