Decatur Police Arrest Man in Connection with Cunningham Shooting
DECATUR - WAND News has learned Tyrone E. Johnson, 44, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of Briayon Cunningham,18. Cunningham arrived at Decatur Memorial Hospital in November suffering from gunshot wounds.
Decatur police say when they asked Cunningham why he was shot, Cunningham said he met with an individual in the area of Walnut Street and Woodford Street with the intention of selling drugs. Police also said Cunningham was seated inside his vehicle when the suspect approached the car on foot, and while money was being exchanged, the suspect allegedly shot Cunningham several times, then stole a large amount of money from him.
The arrest of Johnson was made by Decatur Police Detective personnel, with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service and the Illinois Department of Corrections. Johnson is incarcerated in the Macon County Jail.
