Springfield, Champaign Among Most Dangerous Cities in Illinois
CENTRAL ILLINOIS - The controversial "Safest and Most Dangerous States" list for 2015 is out and it ranks the cities inside the states as well. According to Law Street Media's 2nd annual list, Decatur is ranked 11th most dangerous city in Illinois, while Springfield ranked 3rd and Champaign ranked 5th. The city of Harvey, Illinois topped the list. Illinois ranked 20th most dangerous state overall, with a rate of 380 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
The list is compiled, according to its publisher, by using the latest available violent crime data from the FBI. “Violent crime” is defined as murder, forcible rape, aggravated assault and robbery, under the national Uniform Crime Report guidelines.
Noticeably absent in the rankings this year is Chicago. Chicago reported 414 murders. However, according to Law Street Media, Chicago did not receive a ranking for a couple of reasons. The FBI determined Chicago's data were underreported and the city's data collection methodology for rape does not comply with national Uniform Crime Report guidelines. Underreported data by various cities was one of the main criticisms of the list last year. For the complete list, click on the following link: http://bit.ly/16495iI
