Mental Health First Aid program being offered in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN - Community Elements officials have announced that members of the public and professionals will have the chance to participate in the national Mental Health First Aid program on January 15 and 16.

The 8-hour training certification course will take place at Community Elements, located at 1801 Fox Drive in Champaign.  The course will teach participants a five-step action plan to help individuals who are developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.

This training program is intended to educate a wide variety of audiences, such as family and friends of those with mental illness or addiction, faith communities, police officers, primary care workers, human resource directors, or anyone interested in learning more about addiction and mental illness.

In 2012, Community Elements was certified by the National Council on Community Behavioral Healthcare to provide the Mental Health First Aid program.  All National Council-certified sites in the nation that run Mental Health First Aid strictly adhere to the original, proven program, which was created in Australia in 2001.

For more information on this training, or to sign up to participate, visit, or call Community Elements at (217) 373-2430.
