Illinois hunters bring in 3 percent more deer than last year

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois Department of Natural Resources officials say hunters have brought in approximately three percent more deer this firearm season compared to last year's total.

During the 2014 seven-day traditional firearm season, IDNR officials say hunters brought in about 76,500 deer, up from 74,300 a year ago.  Officials also say that 58 counties saw an increase in the number of deer killed, with 41 counties seeing a decrease and one county seeing no increase or decrease.

The counties with the most deer killed were Pike County and Jackson County, with 2,163 and 2,114 deer taken in, respectively.
