IDOC Director to retire at end of 2014

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois Department of Corrections Director Salvador Godinez has announced that he will retire from public service at the end of 2014.

According to a press release from the Illinois Department of Corrections, Godinez informed staff and Governor Pat Quinn of his decision Thursday afternoon.  Godinez was appointed to his position by Quinn in 2011, and was reappointed to the position on March 17, 2014.

Godinez began his career as a reentry counselor with IDOC in 1973.  He has spent 27 years of his 42-year career in corrections in Illinois, with the other 15 being spent in Nevada, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida, Louisiana, and Puerto Rico.
