Judy Baar Topinka honored at memorial service

COUNTRYSIDE - Friends, family, and state leaders have gathered at a memorial service to pay their respects to late Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka.

The service is being held at a union hall in Countryside, Illinois.  Governor-elect Bruce Rauner, Governor Pat Quinn, Topinka's former chief of staff Nancy Kimme, and former Governor Jim Thompson are expected to speak at the memorial service.

According to a spokesperson for Topinka, the late comptroller did not wish to have a wake or funeral.  However, Topinka had said that family and friends could hold a memorial service after her death.

Topinka passed away last week after suffering complications from a stroke.  She had recently won her bid for comptroller in the 2014 election.  Topinka was 70.
