Southern Illinois man sentenced to 20 years for home invasion

EDWARDSVILLE - A southern Illinois man has received a 20-year prison sentence for his role in a February 2012 home invasion.

On Tuesday, Ricky Andrews, 35, was sentenced for a felony count of home invasion.  Prosecutors say attempted murder charges were dropped as part of a plea deal, which was reached about two weeks prior to the start of his trial.

Authorities say Andrews, along with Robert Kelly, entered 35-year-old Michael Cuvar's apartment in 2012.  During the encounter, police say Cuvar was severely beaten.  Authorities say Cuvar's beating resulted in paralysis and diminished mental capacity.

Prosecutors say Kelly is serving a 10-year prison term after pleading guilty to home invasion in April 2013.
