American Red Cross Volunteers respond to house fire

CHAMPAIGN - American Red Cross officials say volunteers responded to a house fire in Champaign Thursday morning.

Volunteers say they are currently assisting two adults following a house fire on East University Street.  Officials say the volunteers were part of a local Disaster Action Team, a trained group that responds to disasters when called upon.

When responding to a house fire, the American Red Cross says it provides a safe place to stay, food, clothing, and emotional support for everyone affected.  Red Cross officials also recommend to install a smoke alarm and to create a fire escape plan in order to protect your loved ones and home.
