Urbana police investigate armed robbery

URBANA - The Urbana Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in identifying a suspect in a bank robbery that occurred during the morning hours of December 18.

Urbana police say at about 10:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to Heartland Bank in the 1800 block of South Philo Road for a report of an armed robbery.  Upon arriving, officers learned that the suspect had left the bank on foot.

Police say the suspect entered the bank, brandished a weapon, demanded money, and left after receiving an undetermined amount of money.  No injuries were reported from this incident.

Urbana police have released a still photo from surveillance footage showing the suspect, which we have included in this article.

The suspect is described as a male in his 20's, standing 5'9" with an average build.  Police say the suspect wore a camouflage vest over a gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood up.  Police also say the hood did not conceal the suspect's face or hair, which is believed to be a wig.

The Urbana Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident.  If you have any information regarding this crime, you are urged to contact Urbana police at (217) 384-2320.
