Quinn calls session to consider election for comptroller position in 2016
CHICAGO - State lawmakers are being called back to Springfield by Governor Pat Quinn to consider legislation that would allow a special election in 2016 to replace late Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka.
According to a release from Quinn's office, the special session will take place on January 8, 2015. If approved, voters could choose their comptroller in the next statewide election on November 8, 2016. The primary election will be held on March 15, 2016.
State leaders have had conflicting ideas on how to replace Topinka in recent days. She won her re-election bid in the 2014 midterm election, but passed away after suffering a stroke last week. She was 70.
