Champaign authorities investigate retail theft

CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect in a theft that happened last month.

Authorities say at about 5:35 p.m. on November 16, a suspect entered a storage room, placed a 55-inch television on a cart, and left the store with the item without paying for it.  The item that was stolen had a retail value of about $800.

Authorities say the suspect is a male, was dressed similarly to other store employees, and witnesses have described seeing a gold-colored car that may have been involved with this incident.  The Champaign Count Sheriff's Office has released a still photo of the suspect, and we've included it in this article.

If you have any information on this crime, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at (217) 373-8477.
