DECATUR – Ground was broken today on a new $6,000,000 healthcare facility in downtown Decatur.
Once complete, the Community Health Improvement Center (CHIC) will be double the size it was before. The new site is in the Wabash Crossing neighborhood and is designed to handle everyone who meets the federally qualified health center's criteria of patients at or below 200 percent of the poverty line.
Part of the goal is to hire more doctors and nurses to care for the growing number of low-income patients. The current facility doesn't have enough space to meet those needs. The new one will have more than enough.
