Illinois man gets 32-year prison sentence for sexual assault

EDWARDSVILLE - A southwestern Illinois man who was convicted predatory criminal sexual assault of a child has been sentenced to 32 years in prison.

Authorities say Garrett Rottau, 34, received his sentence on Thursday.  Rottau received eight years for each of the four counts he was convicted of in September.

Prosecutors say Rottau's attacks on the 10-year-old female victim spanned about a year, beginning in 2007.  The victim spoke to the judge on Thursday, saying the assaults almost drove her to suicide.  However, Rottau's family and friends also spoke in court, insisting that he was a good, hard-working man.
