Ameren Illinois to upgrade meters, substation in Effingham County

Posted:
EFFINGHAM - Ameren officials say the company plans to invest approximately $10 million in upgrading natural gas and electric service for small business and residential customers in and around Effingham County.

Officials say the improvements will include natural gas and electric meter upgrades, and a nearly $6.9 million upgrade to a substation's transformers.  The upgrades are planned to be completed by the end of 2015.

Ameren officials say customers will be contacted in advance of meter upgrades, and that customers will not need to take any action or be present if installers have clear and safe access to the meters.  The installation will be performed by Ameren Illinois or Apex crews displaying Ameren photo-ID badges.  Installers will not ask for any payment, and will not need to enter your home.  Electric service will temporarily be interrupted during the upgrade, but gas service will not.  The meters will be upgraded during separate visits to each property, and the process should take between 10-15 minutes.

Customers who have any questions about the upgrades can call Ameren Illinois Customer Service at (800) 755-5000 or visit www.amerenillinois.com/focus.
