Quincy airport updates security system ahead of reaching passenger goal

QUINCY - The security system at Quincy Regional Airport has been revamped, as the facility closes in on its goal of having 10,000 passengers board Cape Air flights this year.

Last week, Quincy Regional Airport management, along with the Transportation Security Administration, quietly moved about 7,000 pounds of equipment in order to revamp the security layout.  According to airport manager Jarred Hester, passers-by did not notice the changes that were being made.

Hester also says the airport wishes to reach 10,000 boarding passengers for the year.  If it does, the airport will qualify for a maintenance grant totaling about $1 million.  Hester adds that reservations show the airport is on track to reach its 10,000 passenger goal before the end of the year, as 9,568 passengers have been recorded by December 15.
