Silas Martin - A Lifetime Of Giving

Decatur – Silas Martin is a name you may not know.  But his friends will be inspired by him for a lifetime.

“In the beginning they were trying to support him and in the end it was Silas supporting everyone else,” said Decatur Christian School Superintendent Randy Grigg of Silas and his classmates.

Silas lost his long battle with a rare type of brain tumor on Tuesday morning at his Decatur home.  That home is now decorated with balloons as his family and friends celebrate his life.  A devote Christian Silas always believed he would be going to a better place.

“I can speak personally,” Grigg told WAND's Doug Wolfe.  “I was motivated by Silas in the way that he gave.  He touched other people and his memory will live on for as long as we live on because he touched us in that way.”

A final wish of Silas was an act of giving.  Grigg says the teen has donated his brain so that rare tumor can be studied and possibly help others in the future.

Visitation for Silas will be Friday and Saturday.  On Saturday, there will be a special celebration of his life.

Silas Martin was 16.
