Decatur Man Killed In Christmas Eve Fire

Decatur – An early morning Christmas Eve fire has claimed the life of a Decatur man.

The victim has been identified as 69 year old William Henderson.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Decatur firefighters received a call of a house fire at 2449 East Main Street at 1:08am.  When they arrived on the scene flames were coming out of the home.  Henderson was found dead in his kitchen.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and is under investigation.  Coroner Mike Day says an autopsy to determine the cause of death will take place at the McLean County Morgue.

This is the first fatal fire in the month of December in Decatur since 1999.  There have been three fatal fires in the city in 2014.  There were no fatal fires in Decatur in both 2012 and 2013. 

The Decatur Fire Department is urging people to be cautious using space heaters and candles during the winter season.
