Roadwork on Illinois highways suspended until Sunday

Posted:
SPRINGFIELD - According to Illinois Department of Transportation officials, non-emergency roadwork is being suspended in order to improve traffic flow.

Officials announced on Wednesday that all highway lanes, where ever possible, will be opened until Sunday at midnight.  However, some highways will still have lane closures due to incomplete construction, and work zone speed limits that are posted will still be in effect, regardless if construction workers are present.

IDOT officials say that a similar suspension of roadwork will also take place next week, during the New Year's holiday.  Motorists are advised to slow down and use caution when driving through work zones.
