Illinois State Police distribute clothing, food to families in need

PESOTUM - The Illinois State Police says District 10 troopers collected warm clothing and donations for a food drive to help benefit several families in central Illinois.

Authorities say a total of $430.00 was raised for the food drive, with another $100 being pledged by Charleston Walmart Store Manager Randy Rock.

Troopers used the money to purchase groceries at the Walmart, and later distributed them between five families from Charleston, Lerna, Arthur, Villa Grove, and Hugo.  The families also received warm clothing, and the families' children received toys, which were donated by Rock.

The families who received the items were identified by local churches and schools.  ISP Captain Jamal Simington says it was a privilege to have the opportunity to give back and help those who are having a difficult time this holiday season.
