Christian County authorities form major crimes unit

TAYLORVILLE - Police forces in a rural central Illinois county are teaming up to create a major crimes unit.

The new task force will be be comprised of Pana and Taylorville police officers, county sheriff's deputies, and state police troopers, and will investigate major crimes in the area.

According to Christian County Sheriff Bruce Kettelkamp, help on major investigations from state police may not be readily available, as ISP officers have larger areas to cover than previously.  Kettelkamp also says that there isn't an increase of major crimes in Christian County, but serious incidents have happened in the past few months.

One such incident happened in July, when a man was shot and killed by police after shooting a Pana police officer in the arm and fleeing.
