SPRINGFIELD - City officials say natural evergreen and fir Christmas trees will be picked up by Springfield Department of Public Works crews on January 12, 2015.
Officials say the trees must be placed at the curb by no later than 7:00 a.m., and should be placed in a way that won't impede the flow of traffic. The trees must be free of any ornaments, decorations, tinsel, flocking, and wooden tree stands.
Additionally, ribbons, bows, plastic coverings, metallic wrapping paper, Styrofoam, garlands and wreaths with wire, and flocked trees cannot be accepted for recycling. These items should be placed with garbage for your waste hauler to remove.
City crews will make one pass through Springfield neighborhoods on January 12. Anyone wishing to dispose of trees after that date should contact their waste haulers for disposal. If you have any questions, contact the Public Works Office at (217) 789-2255.
