Holiday Retail Theft Low in Macon County

The month of December means a lot of foot traffic in and out of stores as people check off their holiday shopping list. That means big sales, returns and lots of shoplifting.

However, compared to bigger cities, Macon County's holiday retail theft numbers are low.

"Last year at this time and for the whole month of December we had 13, so far this time this year we have 23," said Lt. Antonio Brown with the Macon County Sheriff's Department.

Lt. Brown said he believes the numbers are low because of the good people living in Macon County and previous stings that were conducted during the holidays.
