Chef foils attempted robbery at Champaign restaurant

Posted:
CHAMPAIGN - Champaign County authorities say an Ogden man has been arrested after a chef at the restaurant he was allegedly attempting to rob foiled the suspect's plan.

Authorities say the attempted robbery happened at the Kamakura Japanese Restaurant Tuesday evening.  Police say Clayton Dial, 23, entered the restaurant, pulled out a pellet gun, and demanded money.  However, police say Tetsuji Miwa, a sushi chef at the restaurant, heard the demand and grabbed his knife, which caused Dial to run out of the building.

Police say Miwa, without the knife, and two other co-workers chased Dial outside and captured him.  Dial was held until police arrived, where he was arrested on preliminary charges of armed robbery and aggravated robbery.
