Pana police arrest armed robbery suspect

PANA - Pana police say they have made an arrest in connection to an armed robbery that happened during the early morning hours of January 2.

Pana police say at about 12:37 a.m., an armed robbery at Casey's General Store on West Second Street was reported.  Officers were told that a female entered the store, displayed a knife, threatened the clerk, and demanded money.  After taking a small amount of cash, the suspect left the scene.  Officers were told the woman had red hair, and was wearing a black hat and a blue hooded sweatshirt.

Authorities say police officers responded to the scene, and saw a vehicle leaving the area.  Police say the vehicle began to slow down as an officer prepared to make an investigative traffic stop. As the officer turned on his vehicle's emergency lights, a female matching the suspect's description exited from the back of the other vehicle and started running.

After a short chase, a police officer apprehended the woman just north of an abandoned house in the 300 block of South State Street.  Authorities say the woman, identified as Brittany Wright, 26, was in possession of an open-bladed knife and small amount of cash.

Wright faces a preliminary charge of armed robbery.  Pana police say they are continuing to investigate this incident.
