Governor-elect Bruce Rauner announces comptroller choice

CHICAGO - A businesswoman and onetime state legislative candidate has been selected by Governor-elect Bruce Rauner to become Illinois' next comptroller.

On Monday, Bruce Rauner announced that he has chosen Leslie Munger to serve as the state's comptroller, following the death of Judy Baar Topinka.  Later this week, lawmakers are expected to discuss a potential special election in 2016 to determine who will complete Topinka's term.

Munger is a University of Illinois graduate, and has acquired her master's degree in business from Northwestern University.  She has worked at Proctor & Gamble and Helene Curtis Industries as a director, as well as in various management positions.  

Munger has also served as a Republican precinct committeewoman, and ran against state Representative Carol Sente in the 2014 election for a suburban Chicago legislative seat.
