Northern Illinois police make arrest in burglary after following tracks in snow

Posted:
FREEPORT - Northern Illinois authorities say a Freeport man faces burglary charges after a police officer tracked a suspect by following a trail of footprints left in the snow.

Authorities say Jose Martinez, 19, was arrested when a police officer responded to an alarm at Freeport's Happy Wok restaurant last week.  Police say the officer followed the tracks from the back door of the building to the spot where Martinez was standing at an intersection.

After being taken into custody, Martinez was questioned by police.  Police say they found a sock filled with $7.82 in coins, which they believe were allegedly taken from the restaurant.

Authorities say Martinez has remained in custody at Stephenson County Jail.  Police say Martinez will face a felony charge, as he has a prior theft conviction.
