Caterpillar to lay off approximately 100 Decatur employees

DECATUR - Caterpillar officials have announced that some employees at the Decatur facility will be placed on indefinite layoff beginning January 19.

According to Caterpillar spokesperson Barbara Cox, the layoff will affect about 100 employees in full-time production roles, and will end the assignments of about 20 agency employees.  Cox adds that Caterpillar plans to offer affected employees support services during this time.

Officials say the layoffs are a part of actions being taken "to bring production in line with demand."  Officials also say some cost-cutting measures, such as reductions in the workforce and temporary shutdowns, have already been implemented.
