Enterprise Zone Could Expand

DECATUR-The goal is to create jobs and expand local businesses by expanding the enterprise zone, adding more taxing districts.
Businesses in an Enterprise Zone can qualify for tax breaks if they are approved, by making capital investments, growing their work force, and retaining other jobs.
The Economic Development Corporation of Decatur and Macon County has filed to form a new enterprise zone.  New EDC President Ryan McCrady says they hope to add the Village of Forsyth, the Village of Long
Creek, the Village of Mt. Zion, and several school districts to the enterprise zone.
"Most businesses don't want to be involved in border wars, it's not good," McCrady says.  "It actually hurts you from an economic development standpoint.  We know that Decatur is not in competition with Mt. Zion and Forsyth.  In fact, we want to work together as a more regional effort"
Sometime during this calendar year, the state will have to give approval for the re certification.
