Danville authorities investigate Wednesday shooting incident

DANVILLE - Danville police are investigating a Wednesday evening shooting incident that left two men dead.

According to Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason, police received a call about shots fired in the area of Main and Griffin at about 5:45 p.m. on January 7.  Police say the caller also reported seeing two vehicles speeding from the area.  Thomason also says Presence Hospital personnel contacted police shortly after, and said that two individuals had been dropped off at the emergency room.

Thomason adds that when officers arrived at the hospital, they were told by staff that one of the men had died, while the other was in critical condition.  The deceased male was identified by Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson as 27-year-old Hank Hamilton.  Johnson says an autopsy revealed that Hamilton's cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.  The other male, who was transferred to Carle Foundation Hospital, died at about 8:06 p.m.  Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup identified this man as 20-year-old Michael Trotter Jr.  Northrup says Trotter has apparently died from gunshot wounds.

Authorities say the incident is still under investigation, and that there is no further information available at this time.  If you have any information on this incident, you are asked to call Danville police at (217) 431-2250 or Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-8477.
