Former Kincaid mayor sentenced to probation for official misconduct

TAYLORVILLE - A former Kincaid mayor who pleaded guilty to official misconduct has been sentenced to probation.

Former mayor Doug Thomas was sentenced as part of a plea deal in Christian County Court on Thursday.  Authorities say Thomas pleaded guilty to an official misconduct charge, which alleged that he asked village employees to use village equipment for a home project.  Prosecutors say the guilty plea means Thomas can never hold public office again.

Additionally, Thomas pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a controlled substance, with two other charges, for unlawful possession of a controlled substance and violating a protective order, were dropped as part of the plea deal.

According to Thomas' attorney, the former mayor "would like to move on" with his life.  Thomas resigned his position in August after having served in Kincaid government for 28 years.
