Renovations underway at historic central Illinois theater

EFFINGHAM - An Effingham native hopes to sell the 75-year-old Heart Theater after renovations are completed.

Effingham officials say the downtown landmark has sat vacant for a decade, and is currently owned by Tad Sligar, who now resides in South Carolina.  Part of the renovations being done included converting the theater into an open floor plan, which would be suitable for multiple uses.

After the work is completed, Sligar hopes to sell the building to a local buyer.  If he cannot, Sligar may have plans to rent it as a reception hall.  However, Sligar says he doesn't believe the building could successfully be used as a movie theater again.
