Rauner signs order requiring more hiring transparency

SPRINGFIELD - In response to hirings at the Illinois Department of Transportation that were deemed to be improper, Governor Bruce Rauner has issued an executive order requiring all of Illinois' political hires to be posted online.

The executive order was signed by Rauner on Thursday.  According to Rauner, the public should have the right to know who is being hired for these jobs, which are intended to be limited to positions in the governor's inner circle.

Under a court ruling, all other state jobs should be filled in accordance with rules that ensures that everyone has an opportunity to apply, and that the most qualified candidate is selected.  However, during an investigation by the executive inspector general, it was discovered that the Illinois Department of Transportation hired more than 200 people since 2003 without following proper state hiring rules.
