IDOA Director says Illinois State Fairgrounds needs repairs and long-term planning
SPRINGFIELD - Newly appointed Illinois Department of Agriculture Director Philip Nelson says a long-term strategy and repairs are needed to attract users to the Illinois State Fairgrounds throughout the year.
According to Nelson, buildings at the fairgrounds are in dire need of immediate repair, and that state officials need to have long-term plans to draw people year-round. Nelson also says both the Illinois State Fairgrounds and the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds need to be modernized.
Nelson, a longtime president of the Illinois Farm Bureau, was appointed to his position by Governor Bruce Rauner on Friday.
