Champaign police make arrests in burglary case

CHAMPAIGN - Champaign police say two men have been arrested in connection with an ongoing residential burglary investigation involving stolen firearms and electronics.

Champaign police say detectives have actively investigated the October 2014 burglary of a private residence, during which several firearms and electronic items were stolen.  Police say the investigation led to a search warrant being issued on January 14, 2015.

Authorities say at about 7:38 p.m. on January 14, Champaign police officers executed the search warrant at an apartment in the 100 block of Kenwood Road.  The Champaign Police Department SWAT Team entered and secured the building without incident, leading to the arrests of Demetrious Gibbs, 24, and Jeremiah Moore, 18.

Champaign police say Gibbs has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, and that Moore has been charged with violations of the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act.
