Changes made to proposed school funding legislation

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois Senator Andy Manar says changes are being made to a school funding measure to help its chances of being approved by the General Assembly.

The legislation, which would give more state money to poorer school districts at the expense of wealthier ones, was originally proposed by Manar last year.  While the measure passed the Senate, it found opposition from members of the Illinois House.

Manar says the legislation is being re-filed with several changes, including the inclusion of a provision that offsets the higher cost of living in some districts.  As a result, wealthier school districts would lose less money than originally suggested by the first draft of the legislation.
