Harristown firefighters battle Wednesday night house fire

HARRISTOWN - Harristown Fire Protection District officials say firefighters responded to a report of a house fire on Wednesday.

Fire Protection District officials say firefighters were called to the 7200 block of West William Street at about 7:39 p.m.  Upon arriving, firefighters say they found a single story home on fire, and quickly attempted to get the fire under control.  Officials say it took 30 minutes for crews to bring the fire under control, and another two hours to extinguish hot spots.

According to fire officials, the homeowner was working in an unattached garage, and discovered the fire when returning to the house.  Unfortunately, the house was severely damaged, and is said to be a total loss.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials say the cause does not appear to be suspicious.  No injuries were reported in this incident.

Harristown Fire Protection District crews were assisted by Warrensburg, Niantic, and South Wheatland fire departments.
