American Cancer Society holding Relay For Life kickoff event

SPRINGFIELD - The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Sangamon and Menard Counties is inviting the public to attend their 2015 kickoff event on January 22.

The event is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. at the LRS Education Center in Springfield, and is intended to be a kickoff for their scheduled June 13 event at Lincoln Land Community College.  According to event Experience Lead Sandy Wilmot, this year's Relay For Life will be ran from 12:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m., instead of the traditional 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. schedule.

During the kickoff event, participants will be able to register teams for the event, as well as purchase luminaria to honor loved ones.  Food and more information about the Relay For Life event will also be available.

Relay For Life events give schools, churches, families, community groups, and local businesses a chance to team up and raise awareness and money to help fight cancer.  Officials are still looking for volunteers to help with fundraising efforts, team recruitment and development, logistics, and entertainment.  If you are interested in volunteering, you are encouraged to attend this event.
