Effingham man faces felony charges after filing false police report

EFFINGHAM - An Effingham man faces multiple felony charges after admitting that he lied to police about being shot while jogging in December.

Authorities say David Koester, 21, was indicted on felony counts of disorderly conduct, obstruction of justice, and unlawful possession of a firearm on Wednesday.

Police say Koester reported being shot in the leg while running with his dog.  The initial report led to police hunting for a gunman.  A short time later, Koester admitted that he shot himself, and lied about being shot because he didn't have a Firearm Owner Identification Card.
