Early-morning incident results in temporary water outage for Springfield apartments

SPRINGFIELD - City Water, Light and Power officials say 26 apartment buildings in Springfield were affected by a temporary water outage Friday morning.

Officials say a fire hydrant in the area of Cherylwood Drive and Hoechester Road was struck by a vehicle at about 3:00 a.m.  The collision caused flooding in the street, with water levels reaching the license plates on some vehicles.

As a result of this incident, 26 apartment buildings in the 900-1000 blocks of Hoechester Road and 6400-6500 blocks of Cherylwood Drive experienced a temporary water outage.  CWLP officials say crews shut off the water main, and a Public Works vac truck was called in.  Repairs were completed and service was restored at about 8:00 a.m.
