Rail project from Danville to Quad Cities under consideration
DANVILLE - Illinois Department of Transportation and Amtrak officials are considering a potential rail service from Danville to the Quad Cities.
This potential rail service would include stops in Champaign-Urbana, Bloomington-Normal, Peoria, and Galesburg, with the potential to expand to Indianapolis. Connecting bus service between Danville and the Quad Cities is also being considered.
According to IDOT spokesperson Brian Williamsen, a feasibility study being conducted by Amtrak is expected to be completed in the next few months, with department officials reviewing the results shortly afterward.
A nonbinding resolution about the potential rail service proposal was passed by members of the Illinois House in April 2014.
