Illinois lawmaker files bill to honor 7 WWII veterans

SPRINGFIELD - Legislation that would rename Route 67 through Greene County after seven brothers who served in World War II has been filed by a state lawmaker.

State Senator Sam McCann recently filed a bill that would name that portion of highway the "Powell Brothers Memorial Highway."  McCann says the family "deserves to be remembered" and that the brothers "demonstrated their absolute love and respect for this country."

Adrian, Arthur, Earl, Everett, Fred, George, and Max Powell served in the U.S. Military during World War II.  All seven survived, and came back home after the war.  Members of their hometown of Hillview set up a flagpole in their honor in 1988.  The brothers were also commended by the U.S. Senate in 2014.
